I know within myself that I am physically active type of person, which is why I like going on adventures and being sweaty, as it pertains to being healthy. Who doesn't want to be healthy these days? Anyway, I've been searching online for a good sport. I was considering taking up a few Muay Thai sessions at Contender Gym, Pasig City as it was one ride away from home. But I didn't have the guts to try it as I have never tried going to a gym before and whenever I plan to push through, it's either I am already tired from work or I have appointments to attend to. So I search for others, even in Metrodeal or any deals online shop so it would be cheap for a trial. I ended up wanting to try Brikram Yoga and Crossfit Manila. After days of contemplating if I would go get it, I failed myself as I rejected the deals and continue with my life as a skinny fat person. I have skinny thighs, legs, and arms; but also a fatty belly and back fats. (UGH!) I've tried to lose some pounds by changing diet plans, but it never worked. So A few days ago, I received an email blast in my work email. In the note, it says that we, the employees, are entitled to have a 3-day free trial at Crossfit Manila, Eastwood City, and discounted monthly membership fee! My team mates and I tried it and here's our experience in getting fit! On the first day, we had coach Jericho to work with us and our WOD (Workout Of the Day) is called Warrior Workout. Crossfit literally stood by its name. There's no specific work out for you, it's time pressured and you'll get fit by the speed and agility you'll adapt to complete the session. Coach Jericho first gave us the instructions on the proper ways in doing per workout pose. In this session, we had regular jabs, front kicks, thrustees with medicine ball, and sit ups with medicine ball. I call it Fantastic Four. For 30 mins total work out time, I was able to sweat a lot, compared to my regular exercise which usually takes an hour. I felt more motivated and excited to come back on the next day!

Most us are aware of these film festivals, but are we prepared to go and watch it impromptu? As for me, I have been influenced in watching independent films and with that influence, I gained knowledge that there are many films fests out there, not just for the Philippine cinema, but also international films fests that you might want to watch as well. Here's my list of film festivals and their usual schedule, or season around the metro so you won't miss it again, write it down on your planner! I have missed some of them and I don't want to miss them out next year. Good luck on watching these films! 1. Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan. This 4-hour independent movie by Lav Diaz first showed in Cannes Festival last May 2013, and since then, the film made its way around the world, screened in different film festivals and gained a lot of positive commentaries from local and international critics. And now, we have the chance to watch it in our local cinema houses! Finally! The screening schedules are in the poster below. It will run from September 10 - September 16, 2014 at different malls in the metro. For Updates follow the team behind Norte on their social media accounts! 2. Cine Totoo A film festival by GMA Network, featuring not just independent films but documentaries. I admire the network by the passion they give to their industry. Within the media industry, you have to be transparent to the viewers, and I love how GMA Network executes their projects well. Their forte is on public affairs and truth to be told, GMA has my trust when in comes to news and documentaries. They just have this high standard and quality for presenting realities to the public. This is more important than the telenovelas watched by the people in the other networks. Upon seeing the plots of each film, I believe that this film fest is beyond great and moving. I expect more than just what I see weekly in Front Row, and documentary shows in GMA News TV. So I stand that we will not be disappointed by the films featured in this festival. For Updates follow them below! 3. CineFilipino This film festival started last August 2012, in partnership with PLDT Smart Foundation and Unitel Productions. I first knew about the film fest at TV5. With the theme: "Stories worth watching. Movies worth celebrating", this film fest aims not just to tackle social issues but also the reality of the people being affected by it. But I haven't heard from them lately. I've checked their Facebook and Twitter accounts, their last post were still back in 2013. For updates, check them out at http://www.cinefilipino.com/ or follow them at their social media accounts! 4. Cinemanila International Film Festival Founded in 1999, Cinemanila continued the legacy of Lino Brocka with the desire of having Filipino films able to known in the international market. Their latest film festival happened last December 2013. No further news up until now, upon checking their social media accounts. Keep posted to know when they will go screening again. For now, you may check their website here at http://cinemanila.mov.cm/ or follow them below 5. Cine Europa 2014 My dream of exploring European culture is finally about to come true! Choz! But seriously though, I find their culture very interesting. This year, we have another great European films to explore and learn from. The Film Festival will be held again at Shang Cineplex, happening from September 11 up until September 21,2014. Aside from the free admission ( YES, YOU'VE READ IT RIGHT, F-R-E-E!!), the Shangri-la Plaza is very convenient to go to. So see you there guys! Below is the schedule for the 17th CineEuropa and a playlist of trailers of the movies featured there. For updates, follow them on Facebook and tweet using the hashtag #CineEuropa17 6. International Silent Film Festival 2014 Started in 2007, this film festival is indeed silent but makes a great remark from the viewers as silent films will really leave you in awe to understand the film itself. This just happened last August 28 up to August 31. I'm sorry for myself that I missed this one. But I'll keep my eyes (and facebook) open to know what's up for next year! Follow them on Facebook by clicking the post below! 7. French Film Festival Hosted by the French Embassy Manila, this film fest celebrated it's 19th year showcasing the viewers to appreciate french films. But not only that, the film fest also aims to strengthen the ties between France and Philippines. This happened last June 10 to 15, (which I also missed out). So Better mark your 2015 calendars and planners (If you have already!) Check their website below for updates! http://www.ambafrance-ph.org/19th-French-Film-Festival 8. Eiga Sai 2014: 16th Japanese Film Festival Another film fest that I have missed! This screened also at Shang Cineplex and happened last July 3 to July 13, 2014. It also screen in Davao, Davao City, and Cebu City. The film fest also gave away tickets for free as it was a first come first serve basis. Again, mark your planners to watch out for this, though I haven't watched one yet, I have to make sure I won't miss this one out. Keep posted by clicking the links below! http://filmpolicereviews.com/ 9. Chinese Film Festival 2014 From Japan, we'll now go to China, as SM Cinema brings us the Chinese Film Festival. This is in time for the annual Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival and a joint project by the Chinese Embassy of the Philippines. This is not only for the PH-CH relations, but also grasp a deeper understanding of China's rich culture. Though there may be some disagreement going on between China's and Philippines' government, showcasing the arts will never be hindered by it, as we believe that art connects people. The festival screened last September 5 to 9. This is the first time they screened it on nation wide cinemas and I hope they would do this again for next year. Below are the list of movies featured in the festival and short synopsis. Photo grabbed from Philstar.com 10. Cinemalaya Last, but definitely not the least. Cinemalaya is the well known independent film festival and yearly, people of all ages would wait for the Cinemalaya season. They have been screening since ____ and their legacy continues. What I noticed about this film festival that the passion every indie artists and filmmakers have, has influenced the mainstream movie artists that most of them has been dreaming to be part of an independent film. Also, mainstream actors and actresses are really different in these independent films as here they could really show their passion for their craft. Watch the Youtube playlist below for the trailers of Cinemalaya 2014! Keep posted and know their updates at Cinemalaya.org BONUS!!! Barber's Tales This screening is on September 18 at UP Diliman's Cine Adarna! Click below to check out their facebook page. Another film starred by Eugene Domingo, my favorite actress. Finally came back in doing independent films, to where you truly give your best. I seriously cannot wait for this. The tickets are sold by reservation and I'm still stuck in between as it lands on a weekday workday, which means I'm not sure if I can go out as early as 3PM. Hope you guys could watch this! Last September 4th, I received an email from Project Awesome PH, inviting me to be part of their 8th mission: To accept the Ice Bucket Challenge. Qatar has nominated Manila, together with Beirut and Dubai and yes, Manila is accepting the challenge! Project Awesome Philippines organized the event and as of now, September 6th, their facebook post has gain 21, 251 likes, 1,425 shares, and 662 comments. Some people are excited and willingly to join, but reading through the comments section, some are not pleased and thinks that the ALS ice bucket challenge was ridiculous as we are wasting water and they believed that this is just for fun. Well here are my thoughts for the Manila Ice Bucket challenge:

August 30, 2014 - My closest college buddy, Angela, has given birth to this angel, Summer. They are currently based in Florida and we're excited to see them back in Manila on September 23rd! Rhea and I were excited to go shopping and buy baby stuff for our soon godchild. I'm sorry if I wasn't able to finish that zen doodle I am about to give to your mom. Proof of how excited we are to see you! Welcome to the family of ours, Summer!
The first week of September is dreadful and beautiful at the same time. I was able to find myself, (at least) and trying to regain my hopes and dreams. So now, I am on a flux, a series of change because I believe that change is constant. I changed my domain name as well, for a headstart. Remember that this blog would be my soul portfolio. The onion would mean to me, as I am a person with a number of layers, and each layer would reveal something that will make you cry in tears. I also had a hair cut. Not really short but it's enough to feel light and to release the stress from my baggy, straight, and boring hair. And lastly, I already ironed out my bucketlist!!! I will post it soon and share it with you guys, the story behind it, and what's already been ticked off. Keep posted on the bucketlist tab!
I thought of sharing this with you because I discovered the Sports Mode on my Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8. It was better than the Auto mode because it really focuses on where you tap, therefore, you'll have a great macro effect on your photo. So I did a little photo testing with the things I'm planning to do over the weekend. After having a good Friday night with the team, I woke up feeling great on a Saturday morning; Knowing that Noriel will come over. I was surprised a little when mom told me that there would be a get together with family friends on the afternoon, and with that, I was able to introduce N to them, and we both had a good time together while enjoying the night and had some review as well. I am really grateful of Sunday since my hormones are at that time again, but N decided to come over to continue our agenda for the weekend. He brought me food and green tea.
Today is holiday at work because it's QC day! I'm supposed to work from home but I got a time out with my mom and aunt. We dropped by this Thrift Shop nearby and found this sophisticated clutch for a cheap cheap price! And now I find myself wanting to go back to that shop. I smell retail therapy now. It doesn't have a designer tag but it's the quality that I'm going for. Also, I am thinking of revamping my online shop, The Clothespress, and have these kind of babies sold.
N and I started playing Bowling at Eastwood City and we got hooked. That we both influenced each of our families, especially our parents to play bowling again. This is a good activity to spend family time, but it's bit crowded at SM Megamall's Bowling Alley that we waited for almost an hour to get our own lane. Before getting our strikes, we had late lunch at Barrio Fiesta, as N is expecting that sweet shrimp paste known in the restaurant. It was a bit disappointing as it tasted different for him. (Still good food though!) On specials are Kare-Kare and Crispy Pata. My dad's missing in action for he's at Batangas for a project, so we just called him during the day. Good thing we had light dinner at Max's before getting exhausted at the Taxi Bay. It's one crazy line, added by the rainy weather! While waiting, we both got the time to talk and play, and mom's busy on phone. It's our first time to use Easy Taxi app. It's cheaper that Grab Taxi by less PHP 30. It was just a great day to spend with the people I love. Happy birthday, Noriel! I wish you well for your board exams. I love you.
It has been weeks since my last post so I had to do some updates, especially on my work. It was pretty obvious that I am being a busy woman, that it came to a point I didn't check my facebook for the whole 24 hours. It was really an achievement but it didn't matter at all. Good thing that I had time to prepare for this month and for the remaining months of 2014. I was excited for this is a big leap for my career, and for myself overall. I am truly proud of myself at this very point.
Above are some snaps posted on my instagram, where in change started. Change would really start on your social media, on how you wanted yourself to be perceived by others (of course). I am guilty of taking a lot of selfies. Yet, looking at my feed, it won't make sense if it consists of them. If my feed won't serve any purpose, so am I. Basically, I am restarting over without deleting everything. As these things are proof of what I am before, what I am now, and what I wanted to become. Some things are now clearer than before. I am trying to be strong to overcome things, such as decision making and time management. Also, the snippets above are the highlights of this week. First, I was able to communicate my issues, and appreaciate my workmates more. We had a team building before the first week of August, and I am really glad this pushed through. (Thanks to my boss, who has been open and given me opportunities to grow more.) Second, I was able to splurge a little on food during overtimes at work. I was trying to be thrifty at this point because Christmas is almost near! But I realized I was worth of what I am working for. ;-) Though don't overdo it. I gained almost 10 lbs! And lastly, I am more free now. After coming out, letting the world know about me and my boyfriend, we had to adjust for some little reasons. But hey, this is a good thing for us. It made me rethink my life plans and goals. x, C. |
