It all started with me, realizing that I am seriously love being in the water. There's something magical, just like how Percy Jackson feels when he's in the water. But apparently I am no daughter of Poseidon, and I can't hold my breath more than 25 seconds tops. I am just a normal human being and I have asthma but it attacks very rarely and the sure cure for it is fresh air and cardio exercise during swimming in the beach. And this is why I love beaches.
We occasionally go to the beach during holidays or long weekends and I felt like it was kinda boring just to swim. Until I find it interesting to surf. I became so desperate to try it. I did search the best surf beach in the country, where to stay, when's the best time to go, and so on. Almost lost hope since I can't find some good accomodation for my whole family. But as for my 19th birthday wish, we went to Baler for 3 days. It's been 7 months but I am always.. stoked!!
So now I am going to share my surf experience at Baler --which tops the list of best surf spots in PH via www.surfingphilippines.com (Check them out for a lot of surfing guides!)

It was 5:30 am, our last day at Baler. As they say, "save the best for last". There's so much to see in that haven (and I'm going to blog about soon after this). I went to there with my cousin then mom and dad came after I signed up for a surf sesh at Mahdox Surf School. I am screaming as loud as those waves hit the shore. I am so stoked!
Then for a while I finally met my surf coach, coach Danny. He thought me the basics of surfing on the sand and just like in school, there's application of the theory and stuff. haha!
LESSON # 1.
Know the parts of the surf board. And here are some of the main parts:
1. Deck is the top of the board.
2. Nose is on the tip.
3. Tail on the back.
4. Fins are.. well fins on the board. They are like the main controllers of the board on waves.
5. Leg rope or Leash is the cord attached to the Tail and the other end is wrapped around your ankle so you won't lose the surfboard or it won't you once you fall off in the water.
If you find it hard to imagine the parts, here's my visual aid for you. There are more parts and details in a surf board but they're not that really important if you're a beginner. Check www.surfscience.com!

LESSON #2:
Okay so we all know that we'll paddle away from the shore, wait till some hump of water is coming near, prepare, get up, and surf. But it's not really easy to get up and find your balance while on a running water, right? So there are two types of getting up on the board.
1. Easy but slow (Hands on the sides of your chest, one bend knee towards the body, then stand up)
2. Hard but fast (Same with the first one, except with bending your one knee.)
(Sorry for my naming convention. I just made them up since there's no specific names for it. lol)

After a few more tips, we hit the waves. Choz. We waited for the good waves to come. (Baka daw kasi mabitin ako) Good tip from my surf coach: Patience. (It means never ever ever ever give up!)
Pagod na pagod na 'ko. I think I need to do more push ups or just be fit. Okay fine, practice. But surfing is kind of costly. Anyway, when my surf session is about to end, i finally.. FINALLY (all caps para intense) made a long surf to the shore. Achievement! So here's my great long ride. :)
I can't explain my feelings (up until now). The feeling is more likely how we could feel Love. (Naks!) But honestly, all I did was smile and kept on saying " Wow".
And now I want to travel around PH to surf... or buy my first surf board. <3
